The First Post

Well, finally found some motivation and time to start our Blog! Yes, this semi-retirement is very time consuming!
We finished work 1 month ago and the time has flown. We are flying to Cairns in a few days, our boat is heading to Cairns on the same day. The boat will take 4 days to get there, hopefully in one piece and with everything still onboard!
Getting out on our boat during the week is fantastic with not too many other people out.

Ok, for a few pics...

Dinner in the City a few days after finishing work- Meat and Wine Co in Darling Harbour- Honestly the BEST steak Darren has ever had. With a nice bottle of Red of course.

On the kayaks in Middle Harbour

    1. Hi Brenda

We would definitely recommend doing the trip. We are very much enjoying our travels so far. We have just pulled into Townsville Marina and are enjoying our endless hot water showers! We are on a 31 foot Chaparral 310. For a 31 footer she's very comfortable. The bed converts to a full size bed which is great. We also have a hard top, which is required for the long QLD sunny days. What sort of boat do you own? Power/sail, etc? If on a sailing boat, the SE trade wind was blowing day and night for all of June and July (and it does so for 6 months), so I would recommend going South to North if on a Sailing Boat, or waiting till about now when the NE is starting to take hold in the afternoon, well here more south in Townsville. Up in Cairns the NE don't start till November the locals tell us.

We used http://www.cometransport.com.au/ to truck our boat up. They were very good, I would recommend them. The price changes depending on the size of your boat. They have an online quote thing and they were quick at replying to me.

Ahhh, good old power on the boat. We don't have a generator set so we have a few options to produce power. We had an extra battery installed so we can actually go 4-5 days after coming off shore power. We also have a fold up 120Watt solar panel, which, to be honest doesn't so alot. It's ok for a few days and keeps the battery charged for a few days longer. Once the batteries get a bit down on power we have a 2kVA portable generator. We bought this from Bunnings. Kipor is the brand. Start it, connect as though on shore power, and turn on the battery charger- very easy. It seems to be doing the job. Then there are the engines, which for the longer runs charge the batteries nicely.

Keep in touch, let me know if you have any more questions.
